Stephen Saunders

SAUNDERS, Stephen - The Saunders family wish to express our sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support shown to Stephen both during and following his courageous battle with advanced Melanoma. We are deeply grateful for the fundraising efforts of the Golf Tournament, Silent and Online Auctions held in Petrolia and the Pig Roast held in Sarnia. Many donations and prizes were very generously offered by many local businesses, clubs, groups and individuals. Thank you to everyone who helped to plan and run these events. We were also encouraged by the many cards, flowers and gifts we've received over the last few months, from Unions, Employers, Teachers and students, Associations, Clubs, Local Businesses, neighbours, co-workers, family and friends; not only from Sarnia, Petrolia and Oil Springs but also from many surrounding communities. We were so pleased to see that many donations were made to both the St. Joseph's Hospice and the Sarnia Humane Society, in memory of Stephen. Thank you to Julie and Laura for purchasing a tree, in Stephen's memory, to be planted in the McKenzie Blundy Memorial Forest. The ceremony was very nice and we appreciated your presence there. We were very moved to see the respect shown to Stephen by honouring his passions during visitations held at Smith Funeral Home. Thank you to Smith's for being so professional and supportive while honouring, respecting and accommodating our wishes. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the service through planning, attending, speaking or music. A special thank you to Tom Rankin for playing such a beautiful song on his bagpipes following the service and to Just Baskits for their amazing set-up of 200 purple balloons we released that day. It was very touching and a very memorable moment for all of us. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Pastor Brian Horrobin and the pallbearers for their part in honouring Stephen. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to VON (Ann Wallace) and to the paramedics who transported Stephen to Hospice. Ann advocated strongly on Stephen's behalf the morning he needed to go into the Hospice and the paramedics who came to our home were so compassionate, understanding and accommodating. Finally, a very special thank you to St. Joseph's Hospice. Mere words cannot convey our sincere gratitude to Dr. Maddison, all of the Hospice staff and the many dedicated volunteers who helped make such as unpleasant situation more bearable. They treated Stephen like a special guest and not just a patient and they made us feel so comfortable and treated us like family as soon as we arrived. I couldn't imagine the Hospice not being available to community members and their families. The Hospice is like a BIG HUG. Bri and I look forward to returning for their children and adult support groups. We strongly encourage continued support of the Hospice. - Thank you all so very much, Aimee, Bri, Morris, Scott and Susan Saunders12586789
