SOLONYKA, Edward Richard - In loving memory of Edward Richard Solonyka who passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Health Sciences North on Saturday, December 19th, 2015. Ed was 69 years of age. He was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Upon completion of studies at the University of Manitoba, he moved to Mississauga with his wife Pat and worked as an Exploration Geologist for several mineral exploration companies. He later worked for the Ontario Government and relocated with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines to Sudbury in 1990 with his family. He was an active member of St. Peter's United Church for many years. He will be remembered as a kind, loving husband and father. He adored his grandson, Oliver. Ed enjoyed working on his family tree and website, Large Canadian Roadside Attractions. Ed enjoyed gardening, a hobby he shared with his wife. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Out of the Cold program. Ed was predeceased by his father, Matt, in 1966; his mother, Mary, in 2012 and his sister, Patsy, in 1973. Ed is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Tanya; grandson, Oliver of Toronto; son Matthew of Edmonton, Alberta (fiancé Kira); mother-in-law, Janet Wuziuk of Winnipeg; sister-in-laws, Jo-Anne Wuziuk of Winnipeg; Connie Dotten (husband, Dale) of Chilliwack, B.C.; brother-in-law, Frank, of Sardis, B.C., (wife, Beverly), aunts, uncles and cousins, niece and nephews. In keeping with Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME .
