John F. Thompson, P.Eng., PMP Ontario Water Works Association's 2014 Norman J. Howard Award Recipient The 2014 Norman J. Howard Award which recognizes proficiency in the field of municipal water works, including: design, construction, operation, maintenance, management, regulation and research, was recently presented to Mr. Thompson by the Ontario Water Works Association. John Thompson, Director of Environmental Services for the City of Barrie, received his Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo in 1978 and has practiced Municipal Engineering for Utility companies, three Engineering Consultants, (two of which he lead as President) and he also served as Provincial Director of Engineering Services for the Ontario Clean Water Agency. As a Professional Engineer, a Project Management Professional and a Licensed/Certified Water Treatment Operator, John Thompson is proud to have played an integral role in the Municipal introduction of Membrane Technology in Ontario, having been instrumental in both the first Municipal Membrane Water Treatment Facility and the first Municipal Wastewater Membrane Bioreactor Facility in the Province. He has since provided Engineering and Project Management input on several Water/Wastewater projects employing Membrane technology from California to B.C. to Ontario, including Barrie's new award winning Surface Water Treatment Plant. John's wife Arlene and their children, Christine and Matthew and his wife Vicki are proud of his many notable accomplishments.
