LOW, James William Alexander - July 24, 1940 - Sept 6, 2011 Son of James Reed Low and Ethel Emily Flinn. With profound sadness we announce the sudden death of our father on September 6, 2011 at the Northumberland Hills Hospital. He was a selfless, gentle and loving soul who touched our lives and the lives of so many around him in countless, quiet ways. We cannot imagine a family gathering or school concert without him and his camera. His devotion to us was evident in everything he did. He leaves behind his four children, Carrie (Brian), Cheryl (Jameel), Peter (Kate) and Jeremy (Melissa), his sister Penny and her children and his great nieces, dear friend Eleanor, beloved cousins, and seven adoring grandchildren Lily, Amelia, Nolan, Arlie, Finn, Kate-Lynn and Rissa in whose lives he was a daily presence. He will be greatly missed by his large extended family and many friends from all walks of life. Dad retired to Cobourg from Toronto in 2008 and quickly became a recognizable figure in our community as 'Grandpa Jim'. Perhaps you met him at the Buttermilk Café or at Harden & Huyse Chocolates with cousin Ann or at the beach building sand castles with the grandkids. We invite you to get to know Jim by visiting www.jimlow.com . Dad was a writer, photographer, camper, traveller, astronomer and genealogist. Above all he was a devoted father and grandfather, a role he cherished. He chased solar eclipses from the time he was a young man - just another excuse to see the world! He once wrote a funny story about a set of dirty foot- prints that 'mysteriously' appeared on our living room ceiling. None of us kids would own up to that! But there is nothing mysterious about the handprints he has left on our hearts. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at The Estates at Golden Beach Resort on Sunday, September 18th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
