van ALPHEN, Marilyn Jean (nee Skillings) - Suddenly in Harlingen, Texas on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Born in 1946 in Woodstock, Marilyn grew up on a farm in Windfall, Ontario. She married, in 1964, Marinus “Mike“ van Alphen from The Netherlands. Together they farmed and had four children. Once the children were all in school, Marilyn resumed her education, gaining the credentials required to provide income tax services. During the early 1980's, Marilyn established her own business in Woodstock, Marilyn's Tax Service, and grew this over the span of more than ten years; she then sold this business a few years ago. Marilyn was an entrepreneur and was extremely generous with everyone who required her assistance. She volunteered countless hours with the church, and the Catholic Women's League, supporting others during various hardships. She was the hardest working woman that we all knew. She had started to alone enjoy retirement, with friends and family, and had spent the previous winter and this current one in Harlingen, Texas. Marilyn is survived by her children Paul (Barb) of Brantford, Jane of Toronto, Andrew (Sherry) of Burford, and Doug (Mary Elizabeth) of Gobles. She also has three beautiful grand daughters Isolt, Charlotte, and Keegan. Sister of Ronald Skillings (Diana), Rose Marie Skillings (Michael Blackmore), Kenneth Skillings (Kuan), and the late Roger Skillings. Friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Monday, 7-9 pm. Parish prayers and Catholic Women's League prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Monday evening at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, 904 Dundas Street, Woodstock on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment later at Windfall Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. Smith-LeRoy, (519) 537-3611. Personal condolences may be sent at
