Dr. John Gerald Wright

WRIGHT, Dr. John Gerald - Peacefully, John passed away on March 13, 2016 after recently celebrating his 80th birthday. Beloved husband of Jean for nearly 57 years, father of Maree Loveless (Brian), Christopher, Peter and Derek Wright, grandfather of Kirk, Delia and Shannon Loveless, Evelyne and Michelle Wright, great-grandfather of Kenley Loveless. He will be remembered by his brother Michael Wright (London, England), nieces and nephews. John was born in Portadown, Northern Ireland and immigrated to Canada from Bristol, England in 1969 with his wife and four children. He was an avid traveler, enjoyed jogging, the Arts, fine dining, reading, and spending time with family. John received his medical degree from the University of Birmingham, England. He was devoted to the health and well being of his patients, retiring at age 70 from practicing psychiatry at St. Catharines General Hospital, and serving for 23 years as Director of Psychiatric Services at Brantford General Hospital. He was awarded a lifetime membership from the Ontario Medical Association, was President of the Brant County Medical Association, and District 2 Chairman of the Ontario Psychiatric Association. In the final years of his life, John fought an aggressive neurological disorder, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) with courage and dignity. A private family funeral mass was held at Sacred Heart Church in Paris, Ontario on the morning of March 16. John was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery. A celebration of his life at a family luncheon followed. John will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Donations in John's memory may be directed to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
