Charles Dyson

DYSON, Charles - October 9, 1919 - June 2, 2015. Charles died peacefully at home in his 96th year. He leaves his devoted wife of 31 years, Frances, his first wife Molly Dyson, his children, Tony (May), Marybeth Drake (John), Martha Coles (John), Adair Brenneman, Sean Dyson and step-daughter, Robin Dyson (Troy Montgomery); eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Charles graduated from the medical school at Western in 1943 and went on to pursue fellowship training in Ophthalmology at both Harvard and McGill. On completion of his training he returned to practice in London where he continued until his retirement in 1993. Charles made important contributions in the field of Ophthalmology including the introduction of intra-ocular lens implantation and the use of posterior chamber lenses. He served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Western for many years. As Chairman he led the effort to create a dedicated and world class ophthalmological centre in London known as the Ivey Eye Institute. Charles was a skilled and innovative surgeon but also a beloved teacher. The family is grateful to caregivers, Elizabeth and Jennifer of Medical Priorities for the support and care Charles received which enabled him to remain at home. A celebration of Charles' life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2015 at St. John the Divine, 21557 Richmond Street at Medway Road, Arva. Reverend Wendy Mencel will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ivey Eye Institute, care of St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation, 801 Commissioners Rd. E., London, ON N6C 5J1. Dr. Dyson operated on my right eye when I was 3 years old many years ago. A very super man. Sorry about your loss.

Girls, Tony... I will miss your father.... he was so generous to me , in ways only we all know...

I looked forward to seeing him when I could... last at RedTail a couple of years ago, when we had a wonderful talk.

He did my father's eye.... I remember your Great Danes..... champagne in the bushes at MB's wedding....another generous moment....

I will remember him always.
