BGen Robert (Bob) Alden

ALDEN, BGen Robert (Bob) - After a long illness BGen Robert (Bob) Alden passed away on 12 April 2013. He was born in Nauwigewauk, New Brunswick. He was married for 48 years to Jane, father to Patrick, Joel (Nancy), loving Grandfather to Noah, Carolyn, Anika and Scarlett. He will also be missed by his sisters, Louise and Patricia and many nieces and nephews. Bob proudly served in the Canadian Army from 1957-1995. He started his career with the Canadian Black Watch (RHC). Upon their disbandment joined the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR). He also served in the Canadian Airborne Regiment (CAR and 3 Mech CDO). He and his family have had numerous postings across Canada from Nova Scotia to Alberta as well as many years in Germany. Since retirement in 1995 Bob and Jane have lived in Glenburnie (Kingston) between travels to Australia and much of Europe. A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday 17 April at Fort Frontenac Officers' Mess (317 Ontario Street). The family wish to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Saint Elizabeth, Kingston General Hospital and St. Mary's of the Lake for their care and compassion. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. 12370154

Alma and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences. I was the Sig O with 1 RHC and crossed paths many times with Bob over the years, enjoyed the Kingston Black Watch luncheons that Bob organized over the years. He will be missed. Cecil Penney

I served with Bob in 3 Mech and in Kingston. He was always a great example to us junior officers, and always had a great sense of humour, able to take the best from any situation.

Jane, Anne and I send our condolences and our thoughts are with you and the family at this time.

Bob was one of my Squadron Commanders at RMC, and had remained a very close friend since then.

We are so sorry to have to say good bye to a fine man who got his start in Nauwigewauk, NB.
