Robert Morley Sr. Allen

ALLEN, Robert Morley Sr. - 1921-2011 - We are sad to announce that our Father, Bob passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on Sunday October 23, 2011 at Leamington District Memorial Hospital. He is now joyfully reunited with his beloved Marion (McEwen, 2003). He was the dear son of L. Arthur Allen (1958) and Hazel H. Brown (1968) and brother Harold. Dad was born in Kingsville where he grew up on his father's dairy farm. Upon graduating from Kingsville High School, Bob excelled at the University of Western Ontario in football, baseball, basketball and track, earning his inclusion in the UWO Sports Hall of Fame. His football career was interrupted while he proudly served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Navy. He raised his family in Montreal, where Bob was a Member and Past President of Beaconsfield Golf and County Club, Past President of the M.A.A.A., Director of the Quebec Golf Association and General Manager of Canadian Pittsburgh Industries Ltd. He was involved in the construction and installation of plate glass for RBC Plaza on Bay Street, the Cn Tower in Toronto, Pavilions at Expo '67 and Place Ville Marie in Montreal. He was a member of the Royal Mount Kiwanis Club and a member of TMR Presbyterian Church. In Kingsville, Bob was a Member and Past president of the Kingsville Golf and Country Club, OGA Director, Honorary Life Governor of the Ontario Golf Association and Governor of the Canadian Seniors Golf Association. He served 7 terms on Kingsville Town Council and 2 terms (1 as Chairperson) with the Essex County Board of Education. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 188 and a member of the Kingsville Lions Club. Bob's love of golf and his career have earned him many friends and acquaintances worldwide. Bob will be fondly remembered by close friends, The Tucker and Dear families in Barbados where our parents vacationed for forty consecutive years. Bob was an avid outdoorsman - he banded geese at Jack Miner's Bird Sanctuary throughout his life, enjoyed hunting on Pelee Island and he rarely missed an annual trip to the hunt club near Port Loring. Our father's passing will be mourned by his sons: James Keith (Mary) Montreal, Thomas Arthur (Linda) Lennoxville, Robert Morley Jr. (Pat) London, and his daughter Ann Elizabeth Wood (John) Kingsville. He was most proud of his grandchildren: David, Jamie, Robert (Caroline), Sarah (Greg), Todd, Laura, Sandra (Kyle), Bronwen, and Mallory. Special great-grandfather to Nico, Billie, Audrey and twins Emily, Ben and newborn Madeleine. Dad was Uncle Bob to the McEwen families of Toronto, Chandler AZ and the Seeley family from Baltimore MD. The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsville Court, Dr. Peter Kelton and the tremendous nurses on the 2nd floor at LDMH for their many acts of kindness. Friends will be received at the C. STUART SYKES FUNERAL HOME, 91 Division St. S. Kingsville, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday October 26th. Funeral services will be held at Epworth United Church, Kingsville on Thursday October 27th at 11:00 a.m. After the service, there will be a private family burial service at Greenhill Cemetery followed by a reception to receive friends and well wishers, location to be advised. Our dad has requested no flowers. If you so desire, you may honor his lifelong personal support for the Canadian Cancer Society (Prostate Cancer Research), Epworth United Church, or Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary, Kingsville.
