Dr Ruth (nee Whitfield) Titcombe

TITCOMBE, Dr Ruth (nee Whitfield) - On March 23, 2011 we lost our one-of-a-kind Mother, Dr. Ruth Titcombe, nee Whitfield. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Archie Titcombe, her six children; Leslie, Carole, Richard, Geoffrey, Michele, Lianna; her grandchildren; Adrienne, Jesse, Brennan, Zachary, Kyle, Ian, Samantha, Beckett, Fenton; her siblings Mary, Herb and Bud. She rode her bicycle to work before environmentalism was fashionable, loved gardening, great literature and all things gourmet. Ruth died on the same day as the actress Liz Taylor, and we like to imagine that they are clinking glasses together, two fierce felines who charted their own unconventional paths, who defied the odds with more than 9 lives. Ruth lived with courage and determination, and although she was fond of saying “I'll have half of that“, she did the opposite with life. “With them the seed of Wisdom did I sow, And with mine own hand wrought to make it grow; And this was all the Harvest that I reap'd - “I came like Water, and like Wind I go.“ -Omar Khayyam. The Celebration of Life for Dr. Ruth Titcombe will be held in Prince Edward County, on Sat. May 28th at 2 pm. Contact Lianna Titcombe at ltitcombe@sympatico.ca or 613- 826-3221 for details. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ruth's favourite causes: Candlelighters, Belleville Heritage Society, World Wildlife Fund, The Stirling Theatre, and the Arts and Crafts Dept. of the Belleville Hospital. 10045333

Fond Memories
Posted by Joan Johnston (past neighbour) On Saturday, April 23, 2011
I will cherish the memories I have of Ruth, as a neighbour, employer, and friend. She always was so kind, and showed so much interest in me, as I was growing up. Her memories, and kindness I will always carry with me. Joan
