ARNOLD, John Robert (Jack) - Peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Friday August 13, 2010 at the age of 83. Beloved father of Dana Arnold, Heather (Brian) Wilson, and Candis (Roger) Chittenden. Cherished grandfather of Darrin (Julie) Wilson, Jennifer (Jeff) Burleigh, Darrell (Alicia), Graham (Shanelle), John (Katie) and Craig (Stacy) Chittenden. Great- grandfather of Keziah, Megan, Kaiden and Shanna. Jack will be dearly missed by his sister Helen Wallace and nephew Jack (Sandy) Wallace and their families. He will also be missed by his caring friend Earlma Lauzon and by his extended family. Jack was a well known businessman in Brantford, having established Jack Arnold Motors in the 1960's and 1970's in Echo Place and Cainsville. He was also an internationally known aviation enthusiast & historian specializing in WWII vintage aircraft. In the 1960's he restored an award winning vintage Tiger Moth, which he flew out of the private airstrip he built on Powerline Road (now Harlequins Rugby Field). In the 1970's, in the driveway of the family home in Echo Place, he rebuilt a crashed Spitfire and mounted it on a trailer for display at Port Dover and Niagara Falls. In the 1980's he travelled to the east coast and retrieved a number of Hawker Hurricane wrecks. He was extremely proud that one he sold for restoration is still currently flying. During this period, his home on Cockshutt Rd. could be easily identified by the RCAF jet mounted on a pedestal on the corner of the property. Jack was an avid and skilled pilot with a penchant for open cockpit bi-planes and aerobatic homebuilt aircraft. He was spotted many times over Brantford on Sunday afternoons performing loops and rolls. At Jack's request, cremation has taken place. Friends and Relatives will be received at MCCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME 495 Park Rd. N., on Wednesday, August 25th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service to honour Jack will be held in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations in memory of Jack made to the Steadman Community Hospice, or the Palliative Care Unit at the Brantford General Hospital would be gratefully appreciated. In Jack's memory, we ask that today you buy someone a coffee, call a friend or pay a compliment, that's what he always did. McCleister 519-758-1553 www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca 9382089
