Alfred ADAMSON

ADAMSON, Alfred - A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday June 17, 2010 from Pinecrest Home for the Aged at 11 am. Peacefully on June 11, 2010, with loving family by his side, Alfred Adamson passed away at Pinecrest Home for the Aged. He is survived by his loving wife Ingeborg of 70 years, daughter Arlene Wheeler (Al), sons Bill (Donna) and Barry (Sharon) and grandchildren Janelle and Brett. He was predeceased by his mother Constance, father Andrew, son Allan and sister Ingrid Gustafson. Dad was born September 12, 1914 on the Adamson homestead in Ostersund, now known as Laclu. At the age of 13, Dad got a job working with his team of horses in East Hawk Lake on the building of the Trans Canada Highway. He spent his younger years working the farm and in logging camps with his team of horses. He worked in the winter taking ice up for the town s of Keewatin and Kenora. Dad and Mom farmed dairy cattle and sold milk to Lakeland Dairies in Kenora and to neighbors in the country. Dad worked for Bergman and Nelson as a carpenter in the early fifties and then worked for the Department of Public Works now known as the Ministry of Government Services for 23 years, beginning as Superintendant of Construction and ending his career as District Manager, retiring at the age of 65. There was nothing Dad couldn’t do, from blacksmithing to carpentry. Dad build his own home on the farm as well as his own sawmill, and was self sufficient. He enjoyed retirement on the farm, being active, doing what he wanted to do, enjoing mom’s good cooking and baking. The family would like to thank Dr. Wiebe and the nurses on the first and second floors of Pinecrest who cared for him. A celebration of Life will be held on Thursday June 17, 2010 from Pinecrest Home for the Aged at 11 am. In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, contributions to the Pinecrest Ladies Auxillary or the Lake f the Woods District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
