Bernard “Bernie” Joseph Cain

CAIN, Bernard “Bernie” Joseph - It is with saddened hearts that the family of Bernard “Bernie” Joseph Cain announce his passing on January 11, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Hospice, at the age of 82. Beloved husband and best friend of Beverley Cain for 62 years. Loving father of Michael (Judy), Terry (Shirley), Greg (Allyson), Daniel, Leslie, and Lisa. Cherished grandfather of Ashley, Brittany (Matteo), Caitlin (Jason), Nicole, Terry Jr., Mitchell, Andrew, and Isabella. Treasured great-grandfather of Thomas. Brother of James (Barb), brother-in-law of Susan Hunter (John Vollmar), uncle of several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents John Andrew (Jack) and Jennie Mae. Bernie was a kind and gentle soul who will be remembered for his sense of humour and positive outlook by his extensive family and friends. Bernie was active in sailing and golf. He was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening and travelling with Bev and the family. Bernie retired from Dow Chemical after 37 years of employment and was involved with the Toastmasters Club, Credit Union, and Presidents Club. A special thank you to Dr. Kelly Regan of London Health Sciences Centre and to Dr. David Kim of Sarnia, for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Thank you to Bluewater Health and St. Joseph’s Hospice nurses, staff, and volunteers for their care and compassion for Bernie. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bernie’s life will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME , 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with family and friends being received one hour prior to the service. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Sarnia. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice located at 475 Christina Street N, Sarnia, Ontario (cheques only at the funeral home please or online at www.stjosephshospice.ca).
