Leona (nee Bird) Dandurand

DANDURAND, Leona (nee Bird) - Peacefully, following a series of strokes, at Extendicare Nursing Home, St. Catharines on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 in her 94th year. Loving mother of Catherine 'Cathy' and beloved wife of the late Roger (1996) and adored mother-in-law of the late William 'Bill' Murdoch (2016). Dearly loved sister of Shirley, Phyllis, Pat, Mel, & Marg. Predeceased by brothers and sisters, Eldon, Betty, Dorothy, William, Eileen, George & Robert, and brother-in-law, Paul. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Leona loved her family and friends and had a very special place in her heart for Theresa 'Terry' Tisdelle (Girotti) and her family. "Aunt Leona" will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She was a special "Aunt" to many and a wonderful mother to Cathy and "second" mother to Terry. Leona was a longtime member of The Church of the Transfiguration, and her Anglican faith was very important to her. Special thanks to all of the staff at Extendicare for their excellent care during the last 3 years. The family will receive friends at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL , 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, February 26th at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold. If so desired, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.13255339

Until we moved south in 2002 we saw Leona regularly at church and occasionally at her home; she was a great friend. We talked with her annually on her birthday and were saddened by her decline. Her death diminishes us all. We remember her with affection.
