Rollande "Rollie" (nee Ethier) Cole

COLE, Rollande "Rollie" (nee Ethier) - Dec. 22nd, 1924 - Nov. 6th, 2017 Died in her sleep in Ottawa on November 6, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Alexander Ward Cole. Mother to Douglas Alexander (Jo Anne) Cole and Debra Lynn Cole. Grandmother to Sara (Mike) Cope, Stephanie Cole, Alexander Mimeault and Lucas Mimeault. Great grandmother to Morgan, Heidi, Jack and Ethan Cope. Daughter of Cyprien and Alexandrine Ethier (nee Patry) of Gogama, Ontario. Rollie was part of a close family of 14 siblings: Lionel, Renee, Armand, Delores, Aime, Lucille (Lecours), Gerard, Jean-Louis, Marcel, Georges, Raymonde (Waldruff), Gemma (Jacobson), Simone (Hein) and Claire (Reed). In 1944 Rollie moved from the railroad and logging town of Gogama to Toronto, where she worked in the war effort. While in Toronto she met and married Alex, who was stationed with the Army at nearby Longbranch. Following two years of separation, while Alex served with the Canadian army in Holland and Germany, they then settled in Barrie, Ontario where they raised their two children. Their lives centered upon their family, friends and work at General Electric. After Alex's death in 1980, Rollie remained in Barrie, where she lived until two weeks before her death. Rollie loved to cook, and her holiday baking was legendary. Rollie was a lifelong lover of dogs, having had eight of her own. Always the first to help family or friends with whatever was needed, her presence is greatly missed. In accordance with Rollie's wishes, only a private gathering of family to celebrate her life will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made, in Rollie's name, to the Salvation Army or the OSPCA.13230042
