My condolences to Jim's people

I just looked Jim up and naturally was shocked by his death. He was my TA/mentor at U of Toronto in 1986-1987. Jim's tutorials were marked by kindness, cultivation, and sharing his insights at wise teachable moments. He took me to coffee once out of sheer goodness. Later I took his course, Philosophy of Human Sexualilty. I eventually got the PhD. When he won his post in London, I knew that some things happen right in this world. I really just wish he were still in it.
Remembering a brilliant friend

The time you won your town the race

We chaired you through the market-place;

Man and boy stood cheering by,

And home we brought you shoulder-high.

To-day, the road all runners come,

Shoulder-high we bring you home,

And set you at your threshold down,

Townsman of a stiller town.

Smart lad, to slip betimes away

From fields where glory does not stay

And early though the laurel grows

It withers quicker than the rose.

a very nice young kid

I remember James when he came to my grade 6 class at St. Peter's Separate school in Sarnia in my second year of teaching. So sad to see of his passing at such a young age. Looking at the photo in the newspaper I recognized him right away. My prayers are with James.
A true inspiration

I had Prof. Kow as my instructor in my first year at King's in 2006 for introduction to philosophy. The way he instructed and guided us through that year completely reshaped the way that I think about literally almost everything. He had such a significant impact on me as a student and as a person, both intellectually and as someone I could count on when I needed help. I would not be the teacher that I am today without him. I will never forget him.
