Murray Cornwall Thompson

THOMPSON, Murray Cornwall - MD,FRCP,RCPS,FABA,FACA, July 1925 - July 2015. Passed away peacefully on July 21st at Campbell House in Collingwood with family by his side. Beloved husband of Jean (64 years), loving father of Patti Campbell (John), Wendy Stephenson (John), Jill Walker, Wally (Dana), Jeff (Linda). Cherished brother of Dr. Alan Thompson (Erica) and kind uncle to five nieces and nephews. Caring grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Murray was enlisted in the RCAF from 1943-1945. He graduated from Western University in 1950. Murray's medical career began in South Porcupine On, followed by 3 years as a "Fellow" in anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minnesota. Murray practiced anesthesiology for 34 years at Scarborough General Hospital where he was Chief of Staff for 12 of those years. Murray and Jean retired to Collingwood in 1990. Murray was an active member of the community (Probus, Collingwood Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, Reading Grandpa) and his passions included skiing, golf, history and above all else his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Craigleith Ski Club on Sunday, July 26th Visitation at 1:00 p.m. with service at 2:00 p.m. A tree of life has been planted in the All Saints Cemetery in Collingwood. Many thanks to Dr. O'Halloran and the nursing staff at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and at Campbell House. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle - Campbell House or the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
