Marita Devries

Beloved wife of Max DeVries and proud mother of William, Mitchel and Lydia. Sister of Christian Stopani-Thomson, Gina Goad, Patricia Williams and daughter of Malcolm and Helga Stopani-Thomson. She held a position with Fanshawe College to guide the next generation. Prior/during she was diagnosed and began her battle with cancer. As a result she became a strong advocate for cancer research and made it a priority to educate as many people as possible. She did it with humor and compassion, and supported the nurses passionately in their fight for job security. She always put herself forward and wanted people to learn not just about their path in life, but also about life itself. Her ashes will be spread throughout her gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to would be appreciated.12881772

Marita was someone who was always rooting for you 100% of the time, it pains me very much to learn of her passing. You will be missed by many Fanshawe students for your invaluable lessons, never ending good attitude, and the strength you showed every single day, even if you felt your weakest. My sincerest condolences to her family.

Whether it was about gardening, or life itself, every conversation with Marita was enlightening. Gardening this year will not be the same. I will miss you, very much, Marita. My deepest sympathies go out to the Devries family.

I did not know Marita personally, but any time Fanshawe loses a staff member we all lose something. It sounds as if Marita will be greatly missed by the staff who knew her and of course, her students. Condolences to her family and friends from the Fanshawe family.
