Gordon Francis Pierce

PIERCE, Gordon Francis - Peacefully, at home, on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 - much too soon at the age of 87. Loving and devoted husband of Mary (nee Woodworth) for 61 splendid years. Loving and wonderful father of Nancy and David. No one could hope to meet a more remarkable and honourable man, let alone have the good fortune to be a part of his family. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gordon pursued a career in electrical engineering, graduating from Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia Technical College in 1953. Moving to Ontario shortly after graduating, he was soon employed at General Electric in Peterborough where he remained for 35 years as a Control Systems Design Engineer. Gord had many passions in life, always eager to learn and experience new things. In the early years, camping out in our old canvass tent was a favourite summer pastime. The family, under Gord's direction, built a cottage as their Centennial project on land with no road or electricity! It was there on the lake where his love of sailing blossomed. He enjoyed his Amateur Radio hobby where his proficiency led him to become Net Manager for Eastern Canada. He volunteered his time and expertise to the Festival of Lights. Later in life, he discovered Senior's Badminton which he enjoyed immensely until his Doctor diagnosed a torn rotator cuff injury and advised Gord, who was in his 70s at the time, to perhaps take up a less rigourous sport. Gord rediscovered his joy of skating and he would the first to arrive at the Senior Skate with his mp3 of hand picked skating music. We know his fellow skaters will miss him enormously. A private celebration of Gord's life will be held at a later date. In memory of Gord, donations to the Victorian Order of Nurses would be greatly appreciated by the family. Thank you to the staff at Community Care (especially Darlene) and to the V.O.N. (especially Debbie, Jackie and Tracy) and Elise Hall (Bayshore) for all their caring and compassion.12820162

to Gord's family. A wonderful skater, always a smile and a kind word. Forever grateful I am for the hours he spent choosing appropriate tunes for seniors skating. We will miss him.
