AKISTER, Evelyn Marie (nee McClelland) - Peacefully at Hospice Wellington on Monday, August 5, 2013, just moments shy of her 93rd birthday. Daughter of the late Ethel Gladys (Bumstead) (1924) and Harold Charles McClelland (1984). Cherished wife and best friend of the late George Akister (1989) and beloved mother of Jim of Waterloo and Ruth (Jim) Switzer of Guelph. Loved Grandma of Karen (Paul) Newman of Hespeler and Mike (Teresa) Switzer of Saskatoon. Awesome Great-Grandma of Aidan and Sierra Newman, and dear "Aunt Evelyn" to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Melville (1990) and Gordon (2006). Sadly missed by many, including her wonderful neighbours Doreen and Gerry Norman, and Lillian Tonin, special friend Flo Eland, 10-pin bowling buddies, Jamboree dancing friends, Evergreen Centre shuffleboard and euchre partners, and Trinity United Church Sunshine Club euchre and bridge friends. Evelyn loved to sing, and was a long-time member of various church and community choirs, including the Silvertones Seniors Choir, the Lightshine Singers, the Guelph Civic Choir, and Trinity United Church Choir. She was one of the last original charter members of Trinity United Church in Guelph. Many thanks go out to the doctors and nurses at Guelph General Hospital 4-East Wing for their excellent care during her time there, and to the amazing and compassionate nurses at Hospice Wellington who made her final weeks bearable. Thanks also to the dedicated members of the Trinity Therapeutic Touch team; Ann Osborne, Ruth Thompson, Dianne Butzke, and Janet McMillan, who faithfully visited and provided relaxing touch therapy during her illness. Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL , 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Sunday, August 11, 2013 (1-4 p.m.). A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Church on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St., N, Guelph, ON N1E 5C3 or Hospice Wellington, 795 Scottsdale Dr., Guelph, ON N1G 3R8 would be appreciated by the family12529556
