David Louis Baldwin

BALDWIN, David Louis - August 16, 1929 - April 29, 2013 - David Louis Baldwin, 83 Blenheim, Ontario passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Northside Hospital, located in North Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. David moved to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 2010 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He attended St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. He was a loving husband and friend to Margaret Baldwin and could always make her laugh. David was extremely proud of his family, Dean Baldwin and his wife Joanne, David Jr. Baldwin, Dawn Levangie and her husband Mike. He idolized his grandchildren, Spencer and Samantha Baldwin, Taylor Baldwin and Kaitlyn and Bailey Levangie. Predeceased by his parents, Louis Dana and Kathleen Mary Baldwin and sister and brother-in-law, Kitty and Bob Burk. David lived most of his life in Blenheim, Ontario where he touched many lives. He was passionate about coaching young people in baseball and hockey. He established the Blenheim Golden Blades in 1965. Days before his passing he was reminiscing about the hockey days, saying, "those were good times". That passion later turned towards sailing, where he won many races on Lake Erie in Canada and the U.S. He was an honorary member of Lakeside, Edgewater and Cleveland Yachting Clubs in Ohio. He initiated the St. Anne's Regatta in Erieau to encourage keel sailboats from Ohio to come to Erieau. Later he incorporated the "Powder Puff" race to encourage women to race keel sailboats. David was a loving husband, father and friend to all. We will miss his smile and laughter; but remember a man who made a difference. At his request, cremation has taken place. On June 15, 2013 David will cross the finish line one last time, where we will have a celebration of life on his son Dean's sailboat, the Morgan "D", for a final farewell. "The history of our grandpa is remembered in our laughter. It is in us that his life and memory continues, and it is in us that his history becomes future." 12405986
