Alexander McKeen

McKEEN, Alexander - Alexander Ross McKeen, 79, died Monday, October 22nd, 2012 at CareOne in Paramus, New Jersey. He resided in the family home in Glen Rock, N.J. for some sixty years but was a life-long visitor to the Owen Sound area, visiting friends and relatives and enjoying time at the family cottage in Leith. Born November 24th, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late William J. and Margaret B. McKeen. He attended schools in Michigan and New Jersey, was a 1951 graduate of Ridgewood High School and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ in 1958. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Entering in 1954, he served with the 339th Engineer Construction Battalion out of Fort Eustis supplying and equipping Arctic bases for building the distant early warning (DEW) radar line across the top of the continent. He enjoyed tinkering and worked primarily in the design and construction fields, finishing his career with a thirty-year tenure in the Engineering and Maintenance Department at Hackensack University Medical Center. His hobbies included skiing, sailing, traveling and in his elder years, walking and working on his yard. He attended both the Leith United Church and Trinity United in Annan during his summer stays and had been a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood since 1947. He was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Dr. William McKeen. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Betty, of Ithaca, NY, nieces Laurie, of Oneonta, NY and Christina (Dale) Rohm, of Stevens Point, WI and great-nephews, Garrick and Colin Rohm, of Madison, WI. He is survived locally by cousins, Lorraine (Paul) Hiscox and Norman (Pat) McKeen. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Leith Church. Friends are welcome to visit at the Church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations to the Friends of Leith Church or the charity of your choice and may be made through the BRIAN E.
