Carl James SMITH

SMITH, Carl James - 1934-2010 Tragically, as a result of a fall: at the Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Son of the late Floyd Smith and the late Emma Brewster. Husband of Lorraine Goodwin (Wemp), and the late Aldene Virtue. Father of the late Clark Smith (Pety), Clinton Smith (Tracy) of White Lake, ON, and the late Perry Smith. Survived by his grandchildren Nicole Smith of Vancouver, BC, James Smith of Ottawa, ON, Justin Smith of Kingston, ON, and Callista Smith of White Lake, ON, predeceased by grandson Daniel. Also survived by step-grandchildren Daniel Goodwin and Kayla Goodwin. Carl is also survived by his step-son Donald Goodwin (Rosemary) of Verona, ON, and their children Patricia, Alyson and Alexander, the late David Goodwin (Joan) of Verona, ON, and their children Jackie, Pam and Mary. Predeceased by Stephen. Carl is also survived by his sisters, Mary, Vernon, BC, Irene, Perth Road, ON, Norma (John), Iroquois ON, Ona, Elliot Lake, ON. Carl is also survived by his brothers, Norman (Edith) of Kingston, and Glen (Sandra) of Perth Road, ON. Predeceased by William, Alva and Neil. Carl will also be remembered by his dear friends Michael Lambert (Susan) and Paul Babcock (Tina). Carl was an Honours Graduate from the Ontario Institute of Trades and worked as an electrician in the area for many years. He was well- known for his unwillingness to compromise safety in his work by taking short-cuts or by using inferior equipment. His motto being: “If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!“ Carl retired from Corrections Canada in 1998 after a long career of 38 years. Carl's day-to-day fondness was as a member (VA3-COS) of his radio club and the Rooster Roster. Carl was a proud member of the Naval Veteran's Asso' of Kingston. Carl was also very proud to be known as one of the founding-members of Perth Road's Harris Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received at the TROUSDALE FUNERAL HOME in Sydenham on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In keeping with Carl's wishes there will be no formal Funeral service, cremation to take place with a private family interment at a later date. For those who wish; memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of choice in memory of Carl.
