HENDERSON, Gavin Reginald - Lifelong resident of Wainfleet passed away peacefully at D.H. Rapelje Lodge, on February 6, 2010 in his 95th year. Predeceased by his wife, Shirley Ann Henderson in 2009. Loving father of Earl (Hope) Henderson of Wainfleet, Holly (Barry) Siren of Guelph, Phillip (Barbara) Henderson of Wainfleet, Dorothy Houlden of Richmond Hill and Dianne (Apie) Devries of Wainfleet. Cherished grandfather of Matthew (Sarah) Henderson, Colin (Janessa) Siren, Valerie Siren, Ryan (Mardeen) Henderson, Cheryl Henderson (Paul Marquis), Kaila Henderson, Jennifer Houlden, Bobby Houlden and Robyn Houlden. Adoring great grandfather to Gavin and Charlotte Henderson, Luciana Siren and Drake Henderson. He will be fondly remembered by sisters-in-law Edna Reading-Rigala of Michigan, Margaret Stokes of Welland, Irene Grimwood of Pelham and June Aldrey of Welland. Also predeceased by his son, Fred; son-in-law Bill Houlden, brothers-in-law Earl, Robert and Ken Strawn, Ralph Reading, Ed Rigala, Orville Stokes, Bill Grimwood, Bill Aldrey and sister-in-law June Strawn. Gavin was a lifelong farmer and a St. Lawrence Seaway Employee from 1958 to 1979. As a founding member of the Wainfleet Volunteer Firefighters, Gavin canvassed door-to-door to raise money to retrofit the department's first fire truck. He was also a member of the Foresters and Oddfellows Lodge. Special thanks to the staff of D.H. Rapelje Lodge for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends at the LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick on Monday, February 8 from 2-4 p.m. An Oddfellow Service will be conducted, prior to the 7-9 p.m. evening visitation. Visitation will also take place on Tuesday, February 9 from 1-2 p.m. at the Winger Church of Christ (Disciples) 53238 Hwy. 3, Wainfleet. The funeral service, conducted by Pastor Kevin MacDonald, will follow the church visitation at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Maple Lawn Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Wainfleet Fire Department Equipment Fund c/o Chief Cole (Pumper Restoration) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. 11820141
