Priscilla Louise Harkins

HARKINS, Priscilla Louise - Born: December 27, 1927 - Died: March 8, 2019 The End of an Era Priscilla Louise Harkins born at 966 Michigan Rd., Sarnia, has closed her eyes. Graduated from London’s Teacher’s College in 1959, taught public school for 25 years in Lambton County. Besides teaching school, many will remember her coaching abilities for basketball, hockey, volleyball, and baseball. Throughout the years she has shown her love for animals by participating in horse shows, and training of many personal pets. But to Priscilla, they were her best friends. After meeting her friend Netty Young (husband Robert, from Scotland) they decided to take up the sport of golf, and of course became an excellent golfer, winning more than losing. Her love for any sport made for an excellent competitor as she won the North American Marksmanship seven years in a row, won the North American Archery Championship seven years in a row, received the Dominion of Canada award for the Perfect Bowseye seven years in a row and was on her way to the Olympics as a spectators sport, but was cancelled because of the war. Predeceased by all her family: William (Patricia), Gordon (Doris), Donald (June), Colleen Vansickle (Paul), Norm (Lillian) Ewart, and mother Murtle and father John. Predeceased by Michael Harkins, and Nancy Brown. Leaving behind many nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law Barbara Harkins. Richard Harkins (Betty), Jamie Vansickle (Chris), Greg Harkins (Lucy), John Harkins, Patricia Harkins (Wayne), Kyle Harkins, Renee Harkins (Nick), Daniel Harkins (Robin), James Harkins (Lorna), Paul Harkins, Dave Harkins (Celine), Kim Harkins, and Christopher Harkins (Petra). An honorable mention to all of her curling and golf friends, and a special mention to Fred and Sally Jennings and Bert and Agnus Finn. Her final accomplishment with the help of her good friend Linda Mcphee, was being inducted to the Sarnia Sports Hall of Fame, where she was honored with the Earl McKenzie Award on September 15, 2018. The family would like to thank the staff of Fiddick’s Nursing Home for their care and compassion as well as the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their love and care of Priscilla. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at SMITH FUNERAL HOME , 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior and a light lunch to follow. An open house will be held at 2:00 p.m. following the service, at 966 Michigan Ave., Sarnia; all are welcome. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sarnia & District Humane Society or a charity of choice (cheques only at the funeral home please). I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Harkins family. I remember playing pick-up hockey with and against Pricilla, Norm and his sons and being scored on many times. She was an amazing athlete and a lot of fun to be around.

Great lady loved her smile. Had fun times at SGCC...quite the lady. Quietly friendly and gracious. May she rest in peace with family and friends...

Was my teacher in the late 50's at SS # 15 School in Mooretown. One room school on Kimball SdRd. She cared about us all. Took the time to try and teach us Archery at a local farmers barn.
